KELVION COMFINSAFETY - DOUBLE EFFECT: COMPACT AND SAFETY
By combining two advanced technologies - double tubes and a compact finning system, Kelvion experts obtained a new design heat exchanger - ComFinSafety.
This design, developed by our engineers working with different types of heat exchange equipment, offers significant advantages for applications requiring a high level of safety combined with a compact design and, most importantly, for applications where the properties of the media are significantly different. Since 1974, Kelvion has been developing innovative, safe double tube heat transfer technologies for industrial applications where mixing control in the event of a leak is critical. Such technologies include transformer cooling systems, gas treatment and machine cooling in ships and hydroelectric power plants.
ComFinSafety expands Kelvion's shell and tube heat exchanger portfolio in terms of cost efficiency and compactness. The units are available in both standard and custom designs in the Shell & Tube Double Safety and Transformer Cooling Systems product lines.
The tubing system consists of outer copper tubes and inner tubes, which can be made of copper-nickel alloys or stainless steel, with an additional inner coating. Between the inner and outer tubes there are so-called "leakage channels" connected to a leak detection system that is triggered in the event of a leak. If this happens, only one of the tubes will be damaged, while the other will remain intact and the device will continue to work.
The compact fins are made of aluminum or copper. The pitch between the ribs can be different. The tube bundles have diameters from 100 to 600 mm and lengths from 250 to 3600 mm. The heat exchangers are designed to operate at pressures up to 60 bar and temperatures from -10 to 200 ° C. The carrier can be fresh or sea water, oil, refrigerants or air.
ComFinSafety devices can be used for a variety of applications including energy, shipbuilding, transportation, heavy industry or HVAC. Hydropower is a good example of ComFinSafety's capabilities. Lubricating oil used, for example, in turbine bearings, heats up during operation and must be cooled. Running water from rivers can be used as a cooling medium for the lubricating oil. ComFinSafety provides efficient heat transfer with a small footprint, lower instrumentation costs and reliable separation of media, avoiding contamination of neither river water nor lubricating oil in the system. The hydroelectric transformer can also be cooled with river water. River water must remain uncontaminated by transformer oil, ensuring environmental friendliness in its turn. In turn, the transformer oil must remain uncontaminated with water, as this can cause serious damage to the transformer.
